Bezit tabak in parken verboden
Enige jaren geleden voorspelden wij tijdens een interview met een krantenjournalist dat binnen vijf jaar in Nederland roken op de werkplek en in de horeca verboden zou zijn. Een ongelovige blik van de journalist was het antwoord. Drie jaar later was de rookloze werkplek al een feit. Dezelfde journalist belde me later en zei dat ze niet had verwacht dat dit soort radicale maatregelen in een land als Nederland mogelijk waren.
Vandaag kwam bij ons een bericht binnen uit Californië waarin een maatregel was afgekondigd die alle gezond verstand tergt: in het stadje Santa Cruz in die staat is een maatregel afgekondigd waarbij het verboden is om in de stadsparken tabak bij je te dragen. Zelfs rookloze tabak is verboden. Reden volgens de authoriteiten: de bestrijding van tweedehands rook in het park.
Daar zakt ons de broek van af. De wetenschappelijke bewijsvoering rond meeroken binnenshuis is al zeer twijfelachtig, buitenshuis is de verdunning zo immens groot dat alleen een homeopaat nog effect zou verwachten, maar onaangestoken of rookloze tabak alleen maar in je zak hebben zal toch ZEKER de lucht niet vervuilen?
Dit is werkelijk de anti-rokenhysterie ten top. Wanneer zullen we dit in Nederland krijgen? Binnen vijf jaar of binnen drie jaar?

“No one’s going to be searched,” says Parks Director Barry Samuel. “No one’s going to have their pockets gone through but sheriff’s deputies will be enforcing the law and that applies to smokeless tobacco as well…we don’t want anyone spitting on the sidewalk. It’s unhealthy.”
In a unanimous vote Tuesday, County supervisors took an aggressive stance against smoking by banning the use and possession of tobacco products in all county parks.
Samuel says, “Second-hand smoke is a known carcinogen. We believe our children deserve a clean, safe place to play.”
KRON 4’s Rob Fladeboe spoke to visitors at Anna Jean Cummings Park in Soquel who say the ban is a good idea.
“It’s harmful to the kids,” Juli McDermitt tells Rob. “We want to bring them up in a safe environment.”
“And they learn by seeing,” adds Shaena Strubing. “If they see someone smoking where they play every day, they’re going to say ‘hey, why can’t I do that?'”
The smoking ban applies to everyone and any type of tobacco, even smokeless. Officials say the idea is to keep the county’s 30 parks free of second-hand smoke.
